Common Questions

How much does your consulting service cost?

Next Step does not charge franchise buyers for consulting. If you invest in a participating franchise we explore together, the franchisor pays Next Step a referral fee.

Do you guarantee I will find a profitable franchise?

No. No consultant can guarantee business results. I help you narrow your options, understand the support each franchisor provides, and prepare for due diligence with your legal and financial advisers.

If franchisors pay you, how is your guidance independent?

I am not employed by a specific franchisor, so I can compare multiple models and discuss their pros and cons. Participating franchisors pay my referral fee, and I explain that relationship openly so you can account for it while evaluating my guidance.

How much money do I need to buy a franchise?

Some home-based and service brands start under $100,000 in total investment. Restaurants and brick-and-mortar concepts can range from several hundred thousand dollars to more than $1 million. Review the franchisor’s current estimated investment in Item 7 of its Franchise Disclosure Document.

How long does the process take?

A thorough evaluation usually takes between 30 and 90 days. This allows time for brand introductions, document review, and validation calls with existing owners.

Can I keep my job and own a franchise?

Some franchise models allow an owner to keep another job, but none are passive investments. The time required depends on the brand, staffing model, opening stage, and franchisor expectations. Confirm the required owner involvement in the Franchise Disclosure Document and with current owners.

What is a Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD)?

The FDD is a legal disclosure document that explains the franchise system, fees, estimated investment, contracts, litigation history, outlet changes, and other material information. Review it carefully with a qualified franchise attorney and financial professional before signing or paying.

How is a franchise consultant different from a franchise broker?

A consultant helps you narrow the field, compare brands, and work through the evaluation process. Next Step does not charge the buyer for this service. If you choose a participating franchise after working with me, the franchisor pays Next Step a referral fee.
